Maybe I am just an old school tech guy but I just plug the Type C port into my phone, the port into the wall brick and plug my phone into the wall. I used to be able to just take the cord, plus the plug the cord into the phone and the port into the car to charge the phone. This made it universal for all cars and different charging ports like mirco usb etc. What is the actual benefit to the new way of things?

Not sure what the big deal is, just get a usb-c to lightning cable. I have some anyways because USB-C chargers are nice and quick.
