Or it's quite possible that Cozens was the benefactor of a 15% shooting percentage (no other season has eclipsed 9%) that season which he potentially never repeat again.
In the end there is just as much chance that Cozens is what he appears to be his last 100 or so games, as there is that he's more what he was in that 22/23 season.
And it is a big risk to take with 7 years and $7.1M left on that contract. Especially since it's not like he has glowing underlying stats...he has a 46.4% xGF at 5v5 this year, following a 49.6% last year...that's not good.

Cozens has a bunch of talent and his best hockey is still ahead of him, he is just stuck in a dumpster fire in Buffalo..this reminds me of posters arguing Necas was a 40 point player when I was advocating adding him before the season started. There is too much talent there. Adams might be the worst GM in the league, why would he think Ruff was a good pick when he hadn't accomplished nothing in years and couldn't do squat with a much better NJ team? Get Cozens out of there and get his confidence back and at worst you have a 2nd line C for years.
