After 18 games the Oilers have won 5 in regulation. If it weren't for 3 on 3, they'd be even further down the standings.

Lets look at who their wins are against.

Philly a non playoff team.
Nashville worst team in the league
Pittsburgh a non playoff team
Detroit a non playoff team

Nashville again.
Calgary a rebuilding team but a surprising one
Vancouver a playoff team
Islanders a non playoff team
Nashville again

Who'd they lose to and how would they lose.
Leafs a playoff team
Vegas a playoff team

New Jersey a playoff team (Shotout 3 goal loss)

Columbus a bottom feeder (Blowou)

Carolina a playoff team

Dallas a playoff team (Blowout)

Calgary a playoff team (blowout)

Chicago a non playoff team (Blowout)

Winnipeg a playoff team (Blowout)

Vancouver a playoff team (Blowout)

Seattle a playoff team (Blowout)

Anyone that thinks that this is a serious cup contender is delusional. This is a team that prays on weak teams that they should be yeeting, and gets easily handled by playoff teams, and gets their faces kicked in by real contenders.

If I was coach Knobby, I would be questioning the teams commitment on two fronts. They get badly out hit in most games and badly out give away the puck in most games. That's the sign of a slow team and their leadership visually doesn't give two craps to come back on the back check.

Second, this team gives up leads in the final frame, that to me just screams of a poor fitness level, except maybe McDavid and Draisaitl who drive this team in Overtime and rarely leave the ice.

Now Oiler fans can go all out and blame Skinner, and he is a terrible solution as a starting goalie. But lets be completely honest. Watch the film. The Oilers are adept at terrible own zone play and blatant brain farts that lead to not 3 star, not 4 star, not 5 star, but the rare 10 star offensive chances over and over again, where a .800 svpct might actually be stellar play.

Once again Captain Dig In, and his side kick Superrich piss face, lead by example on their sloppy defensive play.

This Oilers team is a pretender. And we can't point to an easy schedule as a helper, because it won't matter, this was a Oilers team that the hockey press and the fans promised was going to skip to the Stanley Cup and then batter whoever they faced.

The truth is becoming apparent. Not only is this team poorly built, slow, old. But their core doesn't give two craps.

And its good to see.
