Can we start with some basic facts?
-When does Wolf's current contract end?
-When is he eligible to be extended, and for how long?
-What year would Wolf become a FA?
For the OP's original suggestion, I don't think you would have to pay him that much on a long-term contract, would you? Saros just signed $7.5M x 8, and he's an established star. I think the point of signing players to long contracts really early in their career is that you overpay them for a few years (relative to performance) and then underpay them for a few years. So wouldn't the long-term extension for Wolf be like 8 x $5M or something?
