If people actually had to pay cash money to watch that fight I could see this argument, maybe. But "boxing is dead" has been a thing for a while now and yet there are probably going to be 50 million+ people around the world who watched last night. I'd like to think we were all smart enough to put the emotion of hating Paul aside and realised a 58 year old beating a 27 year old was probably never happening, at least not in a full match. Even if you think Paul is a fraud of a boxer who only fights tomato cans he's still an active boxer who trains and fights regularly. Mike didn't even have a warm up fight for this, for obvious reasons, but purely from a stamina perspective this was as big a mismatch as I can remember.
But that's why people like boxing, and combat sports in general: All it takes is that one shot. We all tuned in to see if Mike could just land that one flush shot on the chin or on the temple, maybe the liver. It was a horrible fight, but that was always the most likely outcome. The good thing is we got two other really quality fights. I could see a fair few people wanting to tune in to the third match between those ladies, that was pure action at its finest.
The craziest part to me was people didn't actually seem to realise that this was a titanic mismatch and let their emotions of hating Paul drive them, to the point that by fight day Paul's odds somehow where only -170. Free money if there ever was some, should have never been better than -1000.
