Very simple. If you look beyond his 80's and 90's craziness as you described above, and look beyond those headlines, you'll see he was raised an animal from an early age. So there's an explanation for his terrible behavior in the first half of his life. But if you look at the person he has tried to become in the past 15 years, you'll see he's a person who realized the mistakes he's made and is actively working to end his pride and ego. You can tell it's an ongoing battle but he's also actively trying to change who he once was. I think it's commendable. He's more mindful of many people around who see themselves as good people.
