I 100% agree with this. I just finished now. It's probably one of my top 5 or 10 shows.
You could put it alone, without any reference to Batman or the comics, and it would stand on its own.
The ending was perfect. Sets up perfectly for a 2nd season, or as a principal character in Batman 2.
