Every piece of Star Wars logic and Lore says that there shouldn't be a new Jedi Order period.

Where ever there are Jedi, the dark side rises and the galaxy suffers.

When the Jedi were first rose, members of the order feeling constrained by the Jedi focus on the light side instead of the overall force left and learned how to manipulate the Dark Side, and the Jedi decided they were a threat and decided to wipe them out.

It was Jedi arrogance that their way was the only way.

The Dark Jedi that survived were exiled and ended up on Korriban, or Moriban and they met the Sith Species and founded the Sith Order.

Then they returned for revenge, and the Jedi not only wiped them out, but pursued them back to the Sith Empire and killed everyone including woman and children that they could find, fueling the Sith's need for revenge.

Then about a 1000 years later the Sith Empire returned and nearly wiped out the Jedi, and a war was fought that killed trillions of innocent people that got in the way of a Force civil war.

After that there was relative peace until a Jedi that had a hunger for power and knowledge founded a new Sith Empire, they went to war with the Jedi again and entire world populations were wiped out. The Jedi eventually won and were convinced that they had ended the Dark Side forever. But in their arrogance they didn't believe that any Sith survived. One did Darth Bane who took on a apprentice. They went under ground and acted like a tumor on the galaxy, fomenting corruption, and gaining tremendous power and knowledge, while the Jedi lounged in their temple and grew complacent.

Then at the right moment, the Sith rose, killed off the Jedi and ruled until Luke came along and helped Anakin bring "Balance" to the Force.

Which didn't last long as the Luke rebuilt the Jedi order, and how did the Force react? It allowed for the rise of the Dark Side and the First Order.

So Rey is going to create a new Jedi Order and the Darkness will rise.

Luke was right, and it was the only good piece of Lore story telling in the ST.

Quote:
  • Luke Skywalker: Lesson two. Now that they're extinct, the Jedi are romanticized, deified. But if your strip away the myth and look at their deeds, the legacy of the Jedi is failure. Hypocrisy, hubris.
  • Rey: That's not true!
  • Luke Skywalker: At the height of their powers, they allowed Darth Sidious to rise, create the Empire, and wipe them out. It was a Jedi Master who was responsible for the training and creation of Darth Vader.
  • Rey: And a Jedi who saved him. Yes. Your father was the most hated man in the galaxy. He caused so much death and destruction for many years. But you saw there was conflict inside him. You believed that he wasn't gone. That he could be turned.
  • Luke Skywalker: And I became a legend. For many years, there was balance and then I saw... Ben. My nephew with that mighty Skywalker blood. And in my hubris, I thought I could train him, I could pass on my strengths. Han was... Han was about it, but... Leia trusted me with her son. I took him, and a dozen students, and began a training temple. By the time I realized I was no match for the darkness rising in him, it was too late.
