Alien civilizations maybe existed billions of years ago. Or will exist billions of years from now. Or maybe then even exist right now, but they are too far for any contact. Even Andromeda is 2.5MM light years away.

It's a fun exercise.
Possibly, but then I think about how there's still human societies on earth living in the middle of rainforests in mud huts with no outside contact ever that couldn't possibly comprehend how far the rest of the species has advanced.
