Love the comeback. Great effort. Sucks to lose in a shootout. Always feels like such a disappointing way to end a great game.

Would have rather seen the following on the powerplay in overtime:

Zary-Coronato-Kadri-Weegar or Andersson

I understand the choices by Huska though. He had the four highest played players with long-term contracts on the ice… the four guys expected to produce in opportunities like that. If he went with the guys I suggested above, it would be a story. It would be a question he would have to answer after the game and it would be sending a message to guys like Huberdeau and Sharangovich. I’m not saying that they need that message sent… I’m literally just picking the guys who I think played better tonight and I would really, really like to start using Coronato in a one-timer position on the powerplay - especially in a 4-on-3. And I think Zary is making better passes and creating more space for his teammates than Huberdeau is right now - and he is more of a shooting threat than Huberdeau.

I’m liking how the team is playing but I really don’t want to get away from a focus on putting the young players in a position to succeed/gain confidence. I know Huska wants that for everyone on the team (I think that might have partially motivated his choices of Sharangovich and Kuzmenko in the shootout). But this was a game where guys like Zary and Coronato played better than Sharangovich and Kuzmenko. That’s a clear meritocracy choice where you reward the players that have earned an opportunity - regardless of contract. I think this has to be a top-to-bottom understanding for this team. If Huberdeau, Kuzmenko and Sharangovich were the better players tonight, then give them the powerplay time and shootout opportunities. In this case today, it should have been Coronato and Zary.
