I don't think that's really true. Her peak polling aggregate leads in the swing states in September were pretty small and for the most part they ended up being smaller than the final polling error towards Trump. I think it's safe to say she was always behind in basically every swing state, save maybe for Wisconsin.

I think the only way the Democrats could've kept the White House is if Biden dropped out earlier and they were able to get a candidate who wasn't connected to the administration. Down ballot Democrats did relatively well all things considered (they're on track to win 5 of the 6 Senate races in the 7 swing states Trump won), but the Presidential outcome was a pretty clear repudiation of the Biden administration.
