I don't think it can be understated how much entertainment and the need to be amused is part of American culture and the way of thinking. It's the global entertainment hub for a reason. Elections in America have always been about pageantry and fanfare; it's not just a thing they do because it needs to be done, it is a cultural foundation. You need celebrity engagement and endorsements to have credibility. In most countries, election are a chore and just something you want to get out of the way, so you can get on with life. In the information age, and with social media introducing new entertainment pathways, it's only increasing.
