Wow, I have largely stayed off of CP for a while as I am out of the country and haven't been following US and Canadian politics as closely as I usually do, but I am shocked at a lot of the comments here and in general across media.
I don't know where the superiority comes into play with the down talking to people who are not perceived as smart or ones with an education in something higher than a high school diploma. I am by no means a big Trump fan but the amount of higher educated, wealthy, uber wealthy and successful business people who are in favor of a lot of his policies is very high. The Democrats did get a lot of celebrity endorsements from high profile people but Trump did have some of the worlds heavy hitters up to batt with him all along, not just social media posts. I fully understand that people like Bezos, Musk and a whole host of billionaires are going to benefit substantially from these policies but there is the other side of the coin to be debated.
We have a lot of Democrats looking around wondering how they lost black, latino, female, union voters and more. When you look at this segment of people as black or latino first and forget that they are also employees and employers in their business, your losing sight of what is on their mind.
Although I am pro choice in the abortion debate, going on and on and on about it to a bunch of primarily union male voters in the rust belt is beyond stupid politics. A lot of these people can't afford higher education, are being economically depressed and are also struggling landing women because of the above mentioned reasons. These guys don't need to worry about abortion rights to the same degree as Democrats think.
The Democrats need to seriously wake up and campaign smarter, it's beyond pathetic how bad it's become. Forget the tech bro's endorsements, forget the celebrities and all their nonsense. Cash their cheque, feed them at the event and completely forget about what they have to say at award shows. This playbook was literally the same playbook used by Clinton in 2016 and to some extent, Biden in 2020. People coming for a free concert does not equal voting support. Taylor Swift from Pennsylvania and a an appliance factory worker from Pennsylvania working for (insert any major US brand) have nothing in common in 2024, nothing, she can't help you. That type of stuff from the Democrats reminds me of a famous scene in a great movie, A Bronx Tale. The little kid is worried about the NY Yankee's and the mafia boss tells him not to worry about them, they are not going to help your father pay rent. Fantastic scene starts at 1:20 mark.
Trump is so beatable but the Democrats can't figure out basic things here. If it wasn't for Covid, would Trump lost in 20? This playbook for the Republican's isn't very hard to replicate which is why these candidates keep doing it and keep winning.
I actually didn't expect this result but I understand why we are here again in 24.
