They needed to push the message that unemployment is historically low, inflation has dropped significantly, the stock market is at all-time highs, and GDP is growing at a reasonable rate. I will say that the inflation piece is almost impossible, though. The reality is that Trump's policies, while he was in office, allowed it to flame up, and people don't understand that dropping inflation doesn't mean prices go down; it means they rise at a slower rate. What people want to see is deflation, and frankly, that is only happening if you have a huge economic issue (and no one actually wants that).
I do think Biden gave too much COVID money for too long, long after COVID was done which ultimately was poor macro economic decision making. They had to hide that, they couldn't go 100% blame Trump.
