Even if you're favorable to Cozens and look at the last 3 seasons which includes his career season:
5v5:
GP: 173
Goals: 29
Assists: 38
Points: 67
Corsi For Relative: -2.18
xGF Relative: 0.64
Goals For Relative: -2.72
Corsi For: 49.5%
xGF: 49.35%
GF: 48.5%
8.65% Shooting
.911 Save Percentage
.998 PDO
All Situations:
GP: 173
G: 50
G/GP: 0.29
P: 119
P/GP: 0.69
All of those numbers over the past 3 seasons are pretty average.
His underlying stats don't pop, his production isn't hampered by some shooting percentage unluckyness, and he's averaged 24 goals and 57 points per 82 over the last 2 seasons and change.
So that contract actually represents a risk to the Flames, not a benefit, because if he doesn't improve on what he's been the past couple seasons then $7.1M is actually too much money for him.
If they want futures then I'd consider the NJD 1st Round Pick in a 1 for 1 deal for him, but if they want Andersson then the Sabres have to add another high value piece.
Unfortunately for Sabres fans it looks like they bet on the wrong young center and should have kept Mittelstadt and moved Cozens when making that decision.

Hes 23.. and on one of the worst franchises in the NHL.
He's also shooting at like 2.8% so far this year, which is not sustainable.
For reference he's way further ahead the lindholm was at this point in his career.
