I just looked back in the Monahan trad thread and my first response was even if the price was the same, giving up our first round pick, why not get rid of Lucic for the cap hit rather than Monahan. I’m sure a team would have taken Lucic for the season at a smaller cap hit than Monahan for the same 1st rounder and then we would have been the beneficiaries of a bounce back Mony.

You also need to remember Monahan didn't bounce back that year...which was his only year left under contract with the Flames, there is a pretty good chance he moves on anyway as a UFA. Lucic also had a NMC
