Am sure Conroy is always making calls so not a big deal.
But not a good time to be trying to add NHL roster pieces, probably highest prices are all year right after everyone has done their gambles on waivers and before anyone is out of the race. Only chance I could see would be if someone like Detroit, Buffalo or Carolina gets impatient but they'd be looking for roster help, so if the Flames think there is a point in adding to the group to try and become first round cannon fodder they'd probably have to move a blueliner or winger out from the core group anyway.
So at best without paying a kings ransom you are probably adding someone another team has given up on a bit, think most Flames fans would probably agree that seeing us trade draft capital for a second or third tier centre in his mid to late 20s would be two steps backward in terms of actually contending for a cup. Kuzmenko and Mantha continue to play well and will be headed to contenders next season if they can unless the Flames overpay them big (which given the Kadri and Huberdeau situations would be a disaster) and we lose Rasmus the season after that again unless we spend too much on him. Really not much to build around here yet.
