What do you think happens in these tragic situations? They are put into foster homes, in the care of family or adopted. Everybody knows that foster homes are not the same thing as official adoption but it's not like every child is adopted and put into a loving home, that's not reality.

Anyways I am checked out on this convo
hey curves

i know you've 'checked out' so no need to reply, i just wanted to give you a different perspective on this.

my brother is adopted.... we never had to clarify becuz it's pretty obvious - he's 6'2", lighter brown/tanned skin, jet black curly hair. i was the next 'tallest' maxing out at 5'10", whiter than white skin and straight as a board blond hair.
my brother's birth-mom was an aboriginal prostitute in winnipeg. she drank like a fish. as a result my brother has FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome).
growing up was tough. becuz of his FAS, mentally he only ever hit about a grade 3 or 4 level. he was very loved at home but as i'm sure everyone can relate to, he looked for social acceptance amongst school peers.
becuz of his FAS he didn't really grasp what consequences would be when doing stupid crap his "friends" encouraged him to do. as a result he was brought home many times by the OPP (when we lived in ontario) and the RCMP (once we moved to kelowna).
in his late teens, early 20s he got in with a really bad crowd. the end result was lots of drinking, drug addiction and eventually being convicted of arson. he was in jail for a while and then eventually transferred to riverview mental hospital in Coquitlam. there he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. after some trial and error for meds the doctors found the combination for my brother that worked.
thru all of this, as difficult as it was, my folks fiercely loved my brother and did anything they could to support him/get him back on the right path.
decades later my brother is still loved and he is thriving - which is awesome.
