My parents have been gone for 10 years and I've switched phones twice since they died, but I still have their number in my contacts.
They are listed by their names though. I think years ago, some cyber-security expert said not to put people into your contacts in a way that identifies your relationship. That way, if someone gets a hold of your phone, they won't know which contact is your mom, so they can't message her and ask for $1000 in Apple gift cards.
