I was thinking about this earlier today. People make a big deal of hateful, bigoted gatherings against Israel (and they absolutely should), and comment on antisemitism, fear for safety, and everything that people face many times as stand-ins for the Israeli government or simply just for being Jewish. It’s truly horrible.

Yet I look at how much is ignored, and it doesn’t make sense to me. There are far right leaders IN the Israeli government RIGHT NOW who have dehumanized Palestinians and called for genocide. They are downplayed and dismissed.

We all discussed a survey and some people reacted very strongly that anyone would have a positive view of Hamas, but the anti-Muslim and anti-Arab sentiment expressed in the survey was totally ignored.

There are people like this Trump advisor who openly express hate and call for people to be burned alive. Totally ignored.

And then you look locally, and there are Albertans politicians dehumanizing and actively making life worse for the LGBTQ community, or hate-filled marches against the LGBTQ community or policies protecting them, and nothing. The silence from people who mock LGBTQ people who support Palestinian human rights “because Israel is the only country that cares about them” is especially eye-opening.

Add the fact that someone is justifying the killing of UN peacekeepers, the dame way the killing of journalists, activists, and aid workers have been done before, and still nothing… and I don’t know, it seems like hate is being normalized depending on who it’s directed toward. And I think people still supporting this war and cheering it on have totally lost themselves.
