Except once you bury him he doesn’t cost you anything on your cap because you signed him for a million, or very little, just your owners cash. So you have a guy you think you can move up and down pretty easily because the extra years make it harder for another GM to claim.
I should put out a disclaimer here, I don’t think he’s good, and likely a one year deal might have accomplished the same thing but what I understand of the extra years is to allow this movement up and down easier. I freely admit it’s a debatable point.
