Can’t remember if it’s top two or top three, but up until 2019 the Rangers and the Flames were the only two teams in the league that had never drafted a top two or three player.
As it stands now, it is only the Flames and the Golden Knights. Utah too, I suppose, if you consider teams (location) and not organizations that have relocated.
Here’s hoping the hockey gods finally give the Flames a break and they land McKenna or DuPont. I suspect DuPont will be the longer shot of the two. With the new arena open by then, I suspect ownership will be in full court press to make the playoffs. The prospects they have now and the ones they acquire over the next two years will have to hit plus I wouldn’t be surprised, in the least, that they chase UFA’s and/or start trading picks for established players.
