And even though Honzek deserves to stay, all they have to do is send him down for now, until there is an injury (which might take one whole game). Sending him down to get ice time, with the understanding that he'll be right back up in short order, solves the problem.
This idea that a player needs to be on the opening night roster, as some sort of official score card, is misleading and pointless.

I agree that it's Pelletier's play that's to blame for the current predicament.
Even if he doesn't get waived, does he get a spot in the lineup? Or does he get popcorn duty? Based on his personality, I bet he would be absolutely miserable sitting.
I still think that his pace of play, and defensive awareness are ahead of Klapka. That's why I think he would be a better fit on the 4th line to start the year in games against faster teams.
