It isn’t just Republicans who bribe well-heeled voters. When Obama was elected, he tried to remove the tax benefits from 529 college saving plans, which disproportionately benefit higher income households. His reform effort was smacked down by house Democrats.
Never mind the 1 per cent, the group no politicians - Republican or Democrats - dare to mess with are the 20 per cent, the upper middle-class.
