I'll post my experience here for reference - just because I was completely unaware of this possibilty and maybe it will help someone in the future.
Spoiler!
I got the snip in April. Had the consultation on the same day. We went through potential complications that could arise and then had the procedure. All told I was in and out within about 45 min I would say.
I drove myself home as I didn't think it would be a big deal
By the time I got home (30 min drive) my balls were swollen pretty good but I just figured this was part of it. By about 2-4 hours post procedure my balls were massively swollen- to a point where I realized this was not normal. 6 hours post procedure I was starting to turn black all in my scrotum and within 24 hours it my uper thighs and abdomin were all black. (this was from blood that was leaking in my sack) I ended up going back to the clinic the next morning (procedure was done late in the afternoon). My wife had to take a day off work to drive me in. Dr took one look and sent me to emergency. It was determined that a vein was nicked that obviously shouldn't have been and as mentioned my scrotum was filled up with blood. Walking was close to impossible and pretty painful. I had to basically waddle everywhere with stretched out wide legs so my balls could just fit between my thighs.
They call it a hematoma and I was couch ridden for a week. Had to take off work and was fairly painful for about 2 weeks straight. My wife had to take time off work to help get the kids to school and such and it was just a major annoyance all around.
They only thing you can do it wait and ride it out. I've been wearing compression shorts to give me some support. It is now 6 months post surgery and I still have a hard clump in my ball sack. It has shrunk down to the size of my other 2 balls but I basically have 3 testicles right now. They are saying it may take 9 - 12 months now to disapear when initial diagnosis was 6 months.
Not saying this to scare anyone as it is fairly rare- but just be aware of the potential complications. I was completley un-prepared for this possibility and just expected to be back on my feet in 48 hours.
I would definitly plan to take days off instead of being a "hero" and just going back to work. Even if you don't need it - which most people don't
- there is still a small chance of something going wrong
