Smith and Poilievre are reprehensible politicians, but as far as I know, they aren't actively seeking to end Canadian democracy and plunder us into a fascist dictatorship. As hideous as those two are, it's utterly ridiculous to try and equivocate them to Trump.
The Canadian election is next year, and the next Alberta election is not for quite a while - I'll chime in when we get closer.
But Trump is as impulsive, narcissistic, and psychopathic as a person can be, and he's a coinflip away from getting back into the most powerful office in the world, where he will have everything he needs to install himself as (for all intents and purposes) dictator for life.
We live in a world of nukes now. The third Reich ended because the world community took direct physical action to put a stop to their regime. The fourth Reich will be nuclear armed to the teeth - there will be no way for the international community to put a stop to it.
Honest question for you Clay - what makes you think America won't invade and annex Canada in the coming years if Trump wins this election? If they do it, who is going to stop them?
