For me, running everything through a screen is a deal killer. My wife just bought an Acura RDX (coincidentally at a VW dealer) with a pretty ridiculous screen/track pad setup...it's needlessly complex to even change a radio station. I don't understand how this is considered progress.
Agreed.

One thing I consider big progress is HUDs.

Had one in my Genesis and it was great. I think it renders the traditional gauge cluster obsolete in many ways, which leaves that real estate available for other things. A speedometer? Once you have that info in your HUD you never look down again.

In my new F-150 I was towing on the weekend. When I went into tow mode, the HUD changed, which I didn't know it would do. It lets me know what gear I'm in, has a tach that moves left to right, and my trailer brake gain pops up when I apply the brakes in a very non-intrusive, but helpful way. It's totally awesome.

Also, map direction show up in my HUD on my F-150...not just when using factory maps, but even with Android Auto. Now I'm not looking down at the screen.

HUDS are awesome and in the case of this truck executed so well in that it changes depending on what you're doing with the vehicle.

My hope is HUDs saves us from this digital fkn screen mess every car has. Plus....look at a bunch of BMWs, Mustangs, KIAs, etc. They're all the same. A kind of curved long skinny screen stretching from in front of the driver to the above the control stack. No personality at all. It's brutal.
