They're not that loose. I don't think it's a spoiler because it's out there and pretty explicitly in the trailer.

The main character is Lucius, the Emperor's nephew from the first one. According to this trailer he's also Maxiums' son, which I guess can make sense. How he ends up as a slave is anyone's guessing, but I would assume he's exiled as a threat to the throne.
