I did a pretty stellar double header the other night with The Substance and Transformers One. Very pleased with both. I expected The Substance to be good based on the directors track record (Revenge is an excellent revenge thriller), but it defied expectations. One of the best movies I've seen this year. Both Qualley and especially Moore put in tremendous performances. Highly recommended, and I think Moore has to be one of the favorites to win an Oscar this year.
As for Transformers One, I had zero expectations going in. I didn't believe Hemsworth and Henry were ideal voice casting, and the animation style looked off. Yet I left quite impressed. The story of Optimus and Megatron falling apart was well done. They did a great job of developing the universe as well. For me it's the best interpretation of Transformers yet, even better than the 80s movie. I would rank it between Spider-Verse and Mutant Mayhem. Still not the biggest fan of Hemsworth as Prime... but he grew on me as the character developed.
Strong recommendation for both, as well as See No Evil which I saw last week. It's been a pretty good past few months after a rocky start to 2024.
