I’m actually bothered by telemarketers a lot less. The phone ringing doesn’t freak the dog out, and I can deal with the call with a brief “sorry, we don’t need any [windows/air duct cleaning/phone plans], have a great day!” Takes about 10 seconds.
Door-to-door solicitors are much more disruptive. The dog goes absolutely bananas, and since she’s big and kinda scary to strangers, someone has to grab hold of her by the collar and wrestle her into another room while another person goes to the door to deal with the person selling stuff. They start into their spiel, which is hard to interrupt without being a dick (which is why companies go to the expense of door-to-door sales). If I’m by myself, I’m doing this while holding my barking and growling large dog by the collar. And there’s close to zero chance I’m going to buy whatever they’re selling.
All told, the process is about 60 seconds of major household disruption, compared with 10 seconds of minor disruption caused by a telemarketer.

Telemarketers
Meh
If I don’t know the number I won’t answer, if it is important you will leave a voicemail
