I agree with you this is going to make the situation worse and escalate and probably result in massive civilian deaths in southern Lebanon. My thought is much more when people ask how Israel should fight against people who want to kill them the targeted espionage approach is much better than the current practice in Gaza.

Hezbollah is more powerful than the Lebanese army and more sophisticated than the Lebanese government. They are not Lebanon and that is by design, as they use the fact that they
could take over and kill anyone they wanted to exert the exact amount of control that enables them to continue doing what they’re doing.
Outside of the Shia Muslim community which makes up around 30%, support for Hezbollah is very low with most people disapproving of everything from their existence to their involvement with Israel (including in the Sunni Muslim and Christian communities).
To say this is a war between Israel and Lebanon simply isn’t accurate.
