All he said was: "Oh. Thats understandable, I'll tell reception to waive the fee."
And even if he didn't, I'd pay the fee. Someone's life could have been at stake.

There's so many people who never look behind them when they drive. It's like tunnel vision. It's perhaps worse after rear view cameras and people drive like they expect all cars to yield to them and other cars have eyes in the back of the back.
One thing I noticed someone do was a high beam flash before pulling over. I assumed it was the truck directly behind me that did it. It certainly helped me check behind me a little earlier.
I'm usually pretty good at noticing but sometimes you can't see through a vehicle.
