It's a bit odd, though, because the poll - which is very recent - was based on the alternative that the parties work together on individual items. That is very obviously not happening, and to the extent that one party is more to blame for that than the others, it's the LPC, who take active steps wherever possible to shut down any progress on any issue or inquiry that is politically harmful to them. So if the follow up question to those respondents is, "what if they won't work together? Then do you think we should have an election?" one wonders what the actual will of the public is here.
I guess the other point to make is that to the extent anyone responding to that poll is even
remotely informed about the current state of the electorate and how the three major parties are performing, they'd know that an election now means a PP-led CPC government, so to some extent, it's a referendum on that outcome. It's not surprising that 56% of people don't want that, because according to the same poll (IIRC) the CPC has 45% support (to 25% for the LPC and 16% for the NDP). So 56% against an election that would make PP the PM, and 45% in favour of PP being the PM, all lines up pretty well.
