Totally agree. There was a switch that seemed to click when he was around 25. He seemed to figure out how important his leadership and role modelling was for the game itself and how much bigger the sport was than him and getting a call. He showed huge character. His biography will be interesting to see who influenced him or whether it was just years of strong examples or perhaps the life is finite reality of the concussions.
Unfortunately, the current face of the NHL -- the kid up north -- seemed to flick that switch in the opposite direction at around that same age. It really became all about him.
