Is it really a sequel though? Both films stand alone and the stories don't blend together. They just have the same main character.
If it counts as a sequel, then all James Bond movies should be sequels of each other which doesn't make sense to me.

It’s the second movie released in the series, the actual plot timeline seems kind of irrelevant to me. I mean would you consider godfather 2 to be a “half” sequel because a big chunk of it takes place prior to the events of the first film building the back story of a character who already died? Just seems like splitting hairs to focus on the plot timelines in the film to determine if a movie should be considered a sequel given the purpose of this thread. I wouldn’t consider A New Hope to be a sequel to Revenge of the Sith but I would consider Rogue One to be a sequel to both.
