Default Reasonable Expectations of When Prospects Make the NHL

I was curious when we may see some of our prospects in the NHL on a regular basis. So I took a look at the last 6 drafts to see when players from each draft position reach the 40 NHL games played mark.

A few observations

First Rounders:
  • We probably won't see Parekh or Honzek full time until 2026 at the earliest. Gridin is probably a season behind them.
  • Coronato and Pelletier should hit the 40+ GP mark this season. Zary already has.
  • We are doing well with first round picks.

Middle Rounders (2 and 3)
  • Kuznetsov is in a prime spot to make the team.
  • Stromgren is on the threshold. He is probably at least year away from making the team full time, but he might get a few games.
  • Poirier should get some games in the next two seasons.
  • We have traded or missed on a lot of our second and third round picks. Hopefully at least one of these guys can make the team in the next two seasons.

Later Rounds (4+)
  • Wolf should hit the mark this season. Pospisil already has.
  • There is a reasonable chance Solovyov gets to 40 in the next two seasons.
  • Kerins could start seeing some games as early as this season.
  • We are doing very well in this range

Not Drafted By Flames
  • Brzustewicz is likely a couple of years from regular NHL time, though I expect he will start seeing a few games here and there.
  • Grushnikov is probably at least a year away from making the team, but he is on the threshold.
