If his family is saying this publicly you know there's a massive issues here. There is a whole lot more blame that should be placed on this guy being an absolute liability on the road with regular conflicts and near misses almost a guarantee. The booze in this case is likely just the compounding factor and although unforgivable, its the day to day actions and normalization of driving like a complete loser that lead to this.
I hope whatever happens to this scumbag, that he lives in a personal hell for the rest of his life that pales in comparison to whatever sentence he's given.

Even just reckless driving should have much harsher penalties in terms of license suspensions and car impounding.
Last week when I was on my way to the Vigil I witnessed somebody pass another driver on the inside shoulder and based on the scenario I was honestly so enraged I could have lost it on them.
With how the driver was weaving in and out of traffic and based on the speed they were driving at if there was a bike or pedestrian on the other side of the car they passed they would have had no chance to react or see them.
What does it take for people to learn that the 2 or 3 minutes you might save on your 20 minute commute is not worth the potential risk of killing someone or a serious accident.
