But I suspect his value around the league is next to nothing because of how he has performed at the NHL level, his physical profile and his injuries.

If that were entirely true, we wouldn't see teams trading 2nd, 3rd round picks for fledging former first round players. It matters, but not really in the sense of the contract negotiation he is currently going through.
I hope he doesn't drag this into camp. It would be catastrophic for his season and career. I think Conroy knows this and is calling his bluff in terms of what is probably a 1-way v 2way argument.
