I don’t think we see Gio back here until retirement and then I’m not sold he has a long term organizational posistion here, at least until someone leaves or something. Craig’s pretty content with the team he built around himself currently.
I did ask about the Weegar and his commitment to this team and was told the player has NOT asked for a trade, wants to be here and build something special because he feels it’s more like 2-3 years than 5-6. However the player wouldn’t block a trade if Craig needed to make it happen to better the team.

Yeah, I think I can agree with Weegar's assessment of timelines. *If* the Flames hit on two of their three own first round picks in 2024 (Parekh), 2025, and 2026.
When you start looking at other top-end talents and how quickly their teams started becoming competitive:
Colorado:
10/11: Missed playoffs (Drafted Landeskog)
11/12: Missed playoffs (No 1st)
12/13: Missed playoffs (Drafted MacKinnon)
13/14: Made playoffs
14/15: Missed (Drafted Rantanen)
15/16: Missed (Drafted Jost)
16/17: Missed (Drafted Makar)
17/18: Lost in Round 1
18/19: Lost in Round 2
19/20: Lost in Round 2
20/21: Lost in Round 2
21/22: Won Stanley Cup
22/23: Lost in Round 1
23/24: Lost in Round 2
Tampa:
07/08: Missed playoffs (Drafted Stamkos)
08/09: Missed playoffs (Drafted Hedman)
09/10: Missed playoffs (Drafted Connolly)
10/11: Lost in Round 3
11/12: Missed playoffs (Drafted Koekkoek and Vasilevskiy)
12/13: Missed playoffs (Drafted Drouin, traded Drouin for Sergachev eventually)
13/14: Lost in Round 1
14/15: Lost in Round 4
15/16: Lost in Round 3
16/17: Missed playoffs (Drafted Foote)
17/18: Lost in Round 3
18/19: Lost in Round 1
19/20: Won Stanley Cup
20/21: Won Stanley Cup
21/22: Lost in Round 4
22/23: Lost in Round 1
23/24: Lost in Round 1
Compare that to the Flames:
22/23: Missed playoffs (Drafted Honzek)
23/24: Missed playoffs (Drafted Parekh)
24/25: ?
If Parekh hits then I could see the Flames starting down Weegar's 2-3 year path, assuming of course the Flames do bottom out in 25 and 26. The best part about Conroy's performance so far is that he's been as proactive as he could be. After going into last season to see if it could work, he quickly adapted to the fact that it wasn't going to work and got to it. It's impossible to overstate the importance of the 2025 and 2026 drafts though. If this team has serious Stanley Cup aspirations/want to become competitive for that 2027 season, their own 2025 and 2026 1st round draft picks have to be home runs (as in, best two players drafted in Calgary Flames history).
