After rewatching Casablanca recently and with all the recent chatter about it I decided to watch the 90s remake with Pam Anderson. I gotta say Barb Wire is actually pretty fun, it's totally cheesy and the plot is identical to Casablanca but its really ambitious and a really cool cyber punk futuristic film. The story takes place at the Hammerhead bar during the 2nd American Civil War where the bar owner Barb Wire, has to decide to help a freedom fighter escape to Canada with her husband, using contact lenses that will allow anyone safe passage out of the States (sound familiar). Barb also happened to be in love with her husband before he left her. This movie was ahead of it's time yet also very of its time. There is even a joke in there about everyone wanting Canadian money instead of US dollars that Civil War used this year. If you're in the mood for a fun stylistic sci Fi film give this one a go, it's a hidden gem desperately deserving of a reappraisal.
