I think that this was the step last year, where we changed the position of some players on the website, as well. During the season, it helped to create trade scenarios, where a team was looking for a positional match and it was easier to scroll through teams and quickly see possibilities.
A lot of players are drafted at centre, but never really play there in the NHL. Or sometimes it's winger to centre.
An example on my team, it that I have Chandler Stephenson, one of the best FO guys in the SIM, listed as a LW. He is playing exclusively centre for Seattle, although he alternated with LW on his last team. By moving him to centre on the website, a quick scroll would indicate his value in the SIM from that position. Likewise, I have Mike Hoffman, who has FO of negative a billion, listed as a centre.
It's probably a minor thing, but if it incites trades during the season, why not?
