As much as my heart is broken for the Gaudreau family, I really feel for another beloved Flames icon, Sean Monahan. Just signed a five year contract to match the five years remaining on Johnny’s deal. People have probably seen the podcast he did just a few days earlier, talking about reuniting with Johnny and having their sons grow up together.

This is from an interview that was posted on NHLPA.com:

Quote:
“You enjoy every part of the way and looking back at my career so far, you realize how many friendships and relationships that you make with all sorts of people that last a lifetime.”

Monahan will have both longtime and new support in the stands for his first year in Columbus.

The biggest highlight of his offseason came when he and his wife, Brittany, welcomed their first child, a son named Leo, on May 27.

“It has been so amazing and given me a whole new perspective on life,” said Monahan.

“I’m really looking forward to raising him in the great city of Columbus, surrounded by some great friends. It’s also close to family for them to come to the games.”

A perfect fit, in every way, for Monahan.

I’m speculating of course but if Meredith and the kids move back to NJ to be closer to their families (which would be completely understandable), that dream probably won’t happen.

Either way I’ll be pulling hard for #23 this year.
