You absolutely do not need a car to get around Calgary. I lived in Calgary's Beltline neighbourhood (and worked downtown) for 20 years without a car. It's a
choice people make to live in Yopgobblerville and then complain that there are no amenities within walking/cycling distance of their home and transit isn't convenient in their low-density community so they therefore "need" a car.
