Congrats Table, you'll love the 993! I often miss my 95' C2 Cabriolet. I think in past conversations with you, I mentioned I also owned a 1990 C4 Targa which was my first 911. I preferred the 993, even though it wasn't drastically different mechanically from the 964, it just felt more modern. I also prefer the 993's aesthetics.
Silver - my last 911 was a Black/Black 1984 Targa which I sold in 2015. 1983 was the last year of the SC and they look very similar to the 1984 Carrera. The telltale sign is the integrated fog lights on the Carrera. Your Father's 911 looks to be an SC as previously mentioned. Sepia Brown is one of my favourite 911 colours, especially on a modern 911.
