I'm not sure it's passion that is lacking in FAA's game, but he clearly needs a new approach and team in his camp when he keeps going through these insane peaks and valleys in his game. A guy like Murray or Agassi would be smart given their prowess with the return game, backhands and being mentally strong. Something FAA needs to drastically improve on.
I don't know how you go from having a brutal start on hardcourt to having a great clay season, to being brutal on grass and then great again at the Olympics and Cincinnati, only to look like crap again at the US Open all in one season. Despite changing surfaces, your game should not being rising and dropping that drastically every couple of weeks when you're a top 20 talent.
I guess when you look at it, he really hasn't beaten anyone in the top 10 this year or last year outside Ruud and Rune, so it goes to show that he's simply not at all at a level where he's going to contend in the biggest tournaments.
