They should change the draft rules so NHL teams have NCAA players rights for 5-6 years.

At least teams would have some leverage if players decide not to sign with their drafting team.

Alternatively, you only let teams draft 17/18 year old players in the first round. Before long you only have maybe 15ish 17/18 year old players being drafted per year.

That makes it much tougher for college hold outs. They will be finished 4 years of college a year before the team rights expire which would leave them hanging in limbo for a year. Where as right now, the rights expire if they just complete their 4 years of college.
