If he's on LTIR then unless that scoring is replaced, expect the team to be worse. Maybe not miss-the-playoffs worse but they could end up with a lower seed and a tougher path in the playoffs.
So it seems the Oilers are between a rock and a hard place when it comes to Kane's availability.

LTIR also prevents them from accruing cap space for a deadline deal. So if they are putting him on LTIR they have to probably plan to have him there all year and use him as their deadline acquisition when he comes back for the playoffs.
