Podkolzin and Holloway are 3 months apart in age. Over their entire NHL careers Podkolzin has scored .25 ppg and Holloway .22 ppg. Of course Podkolzin looks to be trending down and Holloway's career arc appears kind of flat thus far, but showed some flashes in the playoff run that could be a possible uptick.
I really thought Holloway would become a player for the Oilers, and $2 million seems pretty matchable if that is the case. Apparently the Oilers management feels differently.

I mean, if you want to look at career points, knock yourself out. But one guy had 26 points 3 years ago, and 9 points since. The other guy just had a break-out year. One guy is trending down and was just dumped by the team that drafted him, while the other guy was offer-sheeted from a 3rd party.
These two players are not close in value. Imagine if a Canucks fan had made a trade proposal of Podzolkin for Holloway, a couple weeks ago - you would have laughed at it. But spin away!
