They're still over if he doesn't go on LTIR. They painted themselves into a corner and better hope that Kane goes on LTIR until the deadline. They still need to add to their defense and have no cap space to do so.
Going forward they're going to lose Draisaitl which is bad for their success but even if he signs it's bad because he'll take a massive chunk of cap space.
They're in a terrible position and the only way out is to go scorched earth.
