You do realize a lot of these people are not of sound mind and body correct? I don't think people understand the level of psychosis here. They actually need society and the government to assist them with their #1 issue which is drug abuse, getting clean, off the streets, rehabbed, houses and fed quality food. That is what I have advocated this entire time but this needs to be done in a more forceful way because the people who are living this life are not capable of making these decisions for themselves, because they are not of sound mind and body.

We don't allow this nonsense in other aspects of society to the same degree as we do in this situation. Why? Cause certain behaviors make people a danger to themselves and to others. This is a founding principle of a basic, functioning society.

We don't want children playing with matches and gasoline. We don't legally allow 50 year olds to sleep with 12 year olds. We have limits on blood alcohol and driving, we have medical standards for people who drive, we have subsidized housing and programs for dementia patients, we have building codes for construction so people don't get hurt. And on and on and on.

I have dealt with these people my entire life having grown up in downtown Calgary and having a family business down there. They are my customers, I have always tried to help out wherever I can with basic things like some extra food, allowing them to warm up, use the phone to call "friends" which usually is their dealers, exchanging their coins for bills etc.

These people need help but they need society in today's age to actually stop or limit allowing this nonsense to continue. You think your being a nice person by sticking up for them, but these people need society, organizations and government to step in for their best interests. They share such little in common with you on a day to day basis that I don't think you can process it. Take the scenarios I deal with and apply them to you. What is in your best interest? Sticking up for "rights" of being high and living a life of hell or getting clean, sober, housed, fed, employed and more like having internet access to argue with nitwits on CP all day.

Scenario: It's -30 in Calgary and there goes Pepsi walking around without shoes and a coat. Hasn't wiped his ass in weeks, showered in god knows how long, continues to scratch his ass in public while calling people (without a phone, just with a phone gesture) " Hello Police, there is some guy here who is trying to take my Rolex watch, can you send someone quick"

Ahhh Pepsi, you don't have a Rolex watch, any change you want to exchange, get something to eat? "I got $6 grand in my wallet " Pepsi then takes out $4.62 in coins. "Here is a $5 bill Pepsi, all the best. Get something to eat today"

Pepsi then begins to tell me how he is currently eating a sandwich and not hungry, despite the fact that I have never seen him with food other than slurpees. "Ahhh Pepsi, your currently chewing on a piece of cardboard that is covered in some nasty things. Please get something to eat and give me the cardboard so I can throw it away.

"Don't worry Curves!! I am heading over to Elbow River Casino now where sometimes Jack, who is a 77 year old card player and horse gambler, gives me $5 or 10 dollars for a BJ in the underground parking lot in his 86 Lincoln. It used to be $40 but he says ever since I lost my teeth and gotten this skinny, I don't look as beautiful anymore. That's ok though, when Jack is in a good mood, he gives me a ride up to Forest Lawn so I can see my kid and collect some more money up there from some other guys. We usually stop by Walmart so I can snag some steaks and some parmesan cheese for him in exchange for the ride (stolen)

"Alright Pepsi, take care and stay warm out there. All the best! Just wondering though, what happened to that Calgary Flames Hoodie I gave you a few weeks ago, it's -30 out and you are virtually unclothed?"

"I exchanged it for a bubble pipe and a slurpee" Pepsi added
